Day 40 - IS THIS A SIGN?
40 days down, 325 go.
Today something divine happened. Still stuck in my quandary of a
decision from yesterday in regards to my music career, I stepped out
of the gym today after my routine 30 min cardio and just as I stepped
out, I was overwhelmingly compelled to look up to the sky. So I looked
up and this is what I saw.

A very very very rare double rainbow. I have seen many rainbows in my time, I even depicted one I'm my painting from day 22. However this was the first time in my life I had ever seen a double showing of a rainbow, one just above the other. Can you spot the second one to the right? Here it is.

Now you can imagine my delight and intrigue as to what this means. Is
this a sign from the great divine telling me everything will be OK. Or
perhaps its an answer to my dilemma. You see the first rainbow I saw, the more prominently outlined and visible one could represent the more obvious decision and the second faint rainbow could represent the opposing decision. Also a second reason for this rainbow to represent the opposite decision is because if you look closely, you will see that this second rainbow somehow is inverted in that it's color scheme is going the opposite way. Now that's very strange and another first. So being faint and almost inconsequential with an opposing or perhaps wrong color arrangement might mean this is the wrong decision and the obvious decision is the one for me. Who knows!!

So tonight I will be painting a second faint rainbow just as it is in the pic, right above my previous rainbow from day 22.

Day 39 - DECISIONS DECISIONS
39 days down, 326 go.
This week I have a very important decision to make, perhaps the most important decision of my career. Now being in this position for the first time, a position every recording artist would kill for, I really have no idea what would be the right move for me. I guess that's why people like me have lawyers. Considering I have one of the best lawyers in the entertainment industry, I should be in good hands. But it's still a very big decision for me that will set the course of the rest of my career from here on. I guess I'm at a crossroad.

So I will be painting something to represent this insoluble dilemma I'm up against. Something that points me in two opposite direction with equal conviction, making it virtually impossible to make a right decision here. Since everything in this industry is subjective, taking either route can possible have it's advantages and disadvantages depending on your point of view. Thus today I'm torn...which way do I go?

Day 38 - GOOOOOOO SAINTS!!!
38 days down, 327 go.
Today was Superbowl day and I couldn't be happier for the Saints. After all the city if New Orleans has been through with hurricane Katrina and now the continued dilapidated state of the city, it was a treat if only to see them make it to the Superbowl. But for them to win it...WOW.

So my paining today is twofold. First I'm gonna paint a football into the halo that currently resides over the map of Haiti. This is because saints are usually depicted with a halo above them. So this was the perfect place to insert the New Orleans Saints football, giving it an extha dimension beyond the obvious. The second addition was to change the color of the what I now see as football shoulder guards from day to the signature New Orleans Saints darkish gold hue. As a matter of fact, I also painted my football depiction in the New Orleans signature gold hue. To add a third dimension to my football painting, I painted the stripes and stitches in white to represent a hint of purity. As the city of New Orleans rebuilds from th rubble, it has a clean perhaps pure slate to make the city anything they want it to be. But the right leadership is needed to make this happen.

Here is a closer look of both additions.

Day 37 - FITNESS & SUNSHINE
37 days down, 328 go.
Although it seemed like it was gonna be another day of downpour when I woke up this morning, the sun quickly took it's rightful place in the Los Angeles sky and it has never shined brighter. It was a welcome sign after yesterday's rain and gloom. So that means I was able to get some much needed work done and further my career. I feel every step I take on my music furthers my music career...no matter how minute. I was able to hit the gym for some much needed cardio vascular exercise and then made it to the studio to finish up some compositions I've had bouncing around in my head and eager to get out for the last week.

As a result, my painting features another triangle for strength but colored in a bright and fluid yellow to represent a little movement in the pleasant sunshine we received today.

Day 36 - RAIN OR TEARS OF THE SUN...YOU BE THE JUDGE
36 days down, 329 go.
If you have been following this very exciting journey of my life in color, you would know that when it rains, my motivation and drive plummets. Especially living in LA, rain is the great immobilizer, forcing almost everything to a grinding half from traffic sanity to road side taco stands to even valet parking. For a culture built around the promise of forever sunshine, we really are not equipped internally and externally do deal with a downpour like today. So again I'm sequestered in my humble abode as I anxiously await the sunshine. Also I'm gonna make an addition to my celestial cluster in the form of another rain drop. I feel this image is the epitome of what Angelenos feel when it rains. Is it a raindrop or perhaps a tear of the sun for being made a fool of in it's home turf? You be the judge.

Day 35 - THE PULSE OF THE NATION
35 days down, 330 go.
Today marked the launch of the first annual Tea Party convention in Tennessee featuring keynote speaker Sarah Palin. The Tea Party movement sprung up on a wave of anti-government sentiment targeted towards big government and it's excessive spending, not to mention their disapproval of the Democrats and the Obama government. This wave of disapproval towards Washington can be credited for Scott Brown a Republican's election to the late Ted Kennedy a Democrat's seat in Massachusetts, which was held by Kennedy for decades until his death last year.

Anyways it got me thinking...do they have the pulse of the nation or are they just an insignificant movement atypical of the current mood of the nation. However I have to say, like most people, we all had very high expectation for the Obama government and to some extent, we have been let down. However it's only been a year so lets see how it goes. But if this movement continues to gain momentum as it has over the last year, then maybe they just might currently have the faint pulse of the nation which will only grow stronger and stronger.

Well that's my political rant for the day. Now back to my painting...seeing as how my painting for each day revolves around a theme or sentiment felt on that day, and my thoughts of the day are as you've just read above, thus 'pulse' is my theme of the day. I have a good idea of what a pulse looks like in it's depiction from watching a lot of ER. So here it is people.

Also since I already have a political section represented from day 27 and 28, I will be painting my pulse into that rift that already exists between Democrats and Republicans because the existence of the Tea Party movement has been spearheaded by the Republicans as a rather blunt tool to expand the fissures that currently exist between them and the Democrats. So in a sense the pulse rings faint for the Democrats and strong for the Republicans. That's why the crest of the pulse is a little bit higher ion the 'Red' Republican section and a slightly lesser in the 'Blue' Democrat section. The difference is not much now as the Democrats have only been in power for a little over a year. Expect the difference to become greater with time...if the Tea Partiers succeed.

Day 34 - A LITTLE R & R
34 days down, 331 go.
Today was a pretty uneventful day. After the craziness of the three day Grammy weekend, I needed some rest. Having not slept much in the days leading up to and the Grammys, I finally had to pay my debt to my bedroom which was a welcome change to all the all the hustle and bustle. So perhaps I can paint something that has to do with slumber or relaxation. Perhaps the theme for today is R&R.

So whats the pinnacle image to evoke the feeling of rest and relaxation other than a hammock? I can't think of any other symbol or image. So I'm gonna be doing my best to paint a hammock today. Here is how it turned out.

Day 33 - FITNESS WITH A SIDE OF ROSES
33 days down, 332 go.
Today was another gym day for me so evidently another triangle is gonna be making a debut on my painting. But it was what happen after the gym that gives this new triangle an interesting twist. As I left the gym, I experienced something that has never happened to me before. A beautiful lady gave me a rose. Now usually I'm the one doing the rose giving and it felt awkward but exciting to have the some on the other foot. She said she just felt like I deserved a rose and then walked off. By the time I realized what was going on, she had disappeared just as quickly as she appeared. I guess I will never know her name but she will forever be immortalized in my painting by giving the new triangle a rose colored hue.

Day 32 - 100 STRONG FOR HAITI
32 days down, 333 go.
Almost exactly twenty five years and 6 months to the day 'We Are The World' was recorded at the behest of Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie to help fight poverty in Africa, Lionel has done it again. This time with the help of 100 of musics biggest stars. Although sad that his co-conspirator in the original project Michael Jackson is not alive to see his dream reborn for a new generation and new cause, the effect would be equally as far reaching. The original was the first song in history to 'Go Diamond' which means to sell over 10 million copies. This reincarnation aptly titled 'We Are The Future' is to help the people of Haiti recover from the devastating earthquake. And it couldn't have come at any sooner.

So my theme for today is 100. Again I'm gonna be simply placing this number on my gold record from day 29. Although I'm tempted to write it in roman numeral like the 11 from last night, looking at it I can already tell that the regular representation for the number 100 is more powerful visually. So that's how I will be painting it.

Here is a closer look.

Also excuse me while I give myself the first of 12 pats on the back in regards to this project because I've made it through the first month. 12 more to go and my masterpiece will be complete. Thanks for your continued comments and support.

Day 31 - GRAMMY DAY AND ONE MONTH DOWN
31 days down, 334 go.
Today marked the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards ad it was a blast as usual.
From the overwhelming positive responses towards this project and the internal strength I have gained so far from expressing my I feel really good about this year. I'm gonna go as far as to predict that next year I will not only be a Grammy nominee, but a winner multiple times over. A tall order it might seem but i think this project is really supercharging my creativity in many ways. The music I have written and recorded in the last month including my Haiti tribute song 'Rescue Me' which can be downloaded below for free are some of the best I've ever written. My mother used to say "reach for the stars and you just might land on the moon". Here is my quote although not as eloquent as my mothers but rather blunt and simple "what good is having ambition if you can't be ambitious sometimes".

Dark green is associated with ambition, greed, and jealousy. I will be using this color for its earlier association. However I can't overlook the fact that unchecked ambition can lead to greed which go hand in hand with jealousy. No wonder they are all associated with the same color. With all that said, I am still left with the question of what image to use to depict my ambition for Grammy awards in 2011? Ho about I introduce something that I haven't used since I began the project...letters. Perhaps the number 2011 or better yet just 11. But knowing me, there has to me more layers to what I choose to paint than meets the eye. I like the number 11 to represent the year of RIZ but how about painting it in it's Roman Numeral representation; XI. That's it, I will add the Roman Numeral for 11 on my gold record. Eureka!!
