Day 20 - THUNDER & LIGHTNING
20 days down, 345 go.
I was abruptly woken up this morning with a loud thunderous rumble...thunder??? You never ever see lightning let alone hear thunder in Los Angeles. So you can imagine my excitement and anxiety all rolled up in one adrenalin filled wake-up call from nature.

I quickly rushed to my window to catch a glimpse a the next one cuz I know most things in nature always come in pairs and just as I opened the window, there is was...my first lightning as far back as I can remember living in LA. What a sight it was, quickly followed by another thunderous rumble.

There really isn't a question in my mind as to what I'm gonna be painting tonight...lightning it is. And if you are counting, this is my 4th straight day waking up to an unusual downpour outside my window. So ladies and gentlemen, I give you lightning.

Here is a closer look.

We are all horrified by the tragedy that recently befell Haiti. We all need to do what we can to help the people of Haiti rebuild their nation and their lives.

I have written and recorded a tribute song as a memorial to the people of Haiti and you can download it below. If you feel moved by the song as I was moved to create, please click on the 'DONATE' button below and give what you can. No amount is too small. All proceeds will go towards the Haiti relief efforts. Thank you and keep Haiti in your prayers.

- Riz.

Day 19 - THE FLOODS ARE COMING...PLEASE EVACUATE!!
19 days down, 346 go.
It's official, some parts of LS are under a mandatory evacuation orders beginning tomorrow morning at 9am. I told you guys that LA and rain don't go go well together.

Although in the grand scheme of things, this situation doesn't hold a candle to what the people of Haiti are going through, it is still a very serious situation and over 400 properties are in danger of being lost. This is what we get after only 3 days of rain when places like Seattle get rain almost on a daily basis and do just fine.

So obviously my motivation for the painting today is still gonna be the rain because this is highly unusual for where I live. In the light of all the evacuation warnings and how serious the situation has become here, I wanna do something more than just raindrops. I think I'm gonna introduce a new character in the world of precipitation...the almighty cloud. Check it out.

Day 18 - MONSOON SEASON IN LA??
18 days down, 347 go.
Again for the second day in a row I woke up to heavy downpour. This is highly unusual for LA so I have to believe its more divine tears to mourn the tremendous loss of life in Haiti due to the quake.

Seeing as its the 6th day since the quake and the chances of finding any survivors this late in the game are virtually impossible, I feel a dark cloud over the world today...much like it was outside my window all day. May their souls rest in peace.

Again I'm gonna add some more tears/raindrops to my painting.

Here is a closer look.

Day 17 - WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS...LITERALLY
17 days down, 348 go.
Imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning to see it raining outside and this has been the case all day. Again if you know anything about LA, we seldom get rain in these parts. Well if rain symbolizes God's tears, then I guess he must me weeping over so many of his children who lost their lives in the past few days. And if that is the case, I hope it pours.

So I added a few more tears...I mean rain drops to my rainfall from day 13.

Here is a closer look.

Day 16 - WE NEED BLOOD
16 days down, 349 go.
The theme for today is 'Blood' to represent the need for blood donations in Haiti which is currently experiencing a severe lack of blood reserves.

I will be using a dark red to represent blood and use is to fill in one of the spaces I previously created.

Day 15 - HAITI ON MY MIND
15 days down, 350 go.
I just cant think of anything else but what the people of Haiti are currently going through. So as you can guess, today's session will incorporate that yet again. I feel that beyond giving money, this is the best I can do to honor the dead and let the people of Haiti know that they are on my mind and in my prayers.

'Rescue' is the theme for today because so many are still trapped and the 48-72 hour window of survival is almost closed. My prayers go out to them. So I am thinking of adding a symbol of a guardian angel watching over those still trapped...perhaps a halo over my map of Haiti.

Here is a closer look and again my 'celestial cluster' gets the action.

I am also compelled to write a tribute song to all those lost and still suffering. All the proceeds if any, will be donated to the relief efforts in Haiti. I will be posting that too shortly.

Please don't forget that the surviving people of Haiti really need your help. So please text YELE to 501501 and donate $5 to help out.

Day 14 - HAITI IN OUR PRAYERS
14 days down, 351 go.
Unless you have been living under a rock for the last few days you've probably heard about the tragic and devastating earthquake that rocked the little impoverished island of Haiti. This is a catastrophe of epic proportions to rival the tsunamis of a few years back and it's been estimated that as much as a hundred thousand are feared dead. The surviving people of Haiti really need your help. So please text YELE to 501501 and donate $5 to help out.

Today's inspiration obviously is Haiti and the terrible surrendering going on right now. I have decided to paints something to honor not only the dead but the survivors of this earthquake so that we never forget the sorrow and pain reeked on Haiti and how lucky we are to be spared. So I have painted the map of Haiti with it's national colors and a half red half blue cross in the center to represent charity and solidarity.

Here is a closer look, right under my 'celestial cluster' cuz I am hoping for some divine cosmic intervention for the people of Haiti.

Day 13 - I LOVE THE SMELL OF RAINFALL IN THE MORNING
13 days down, 352 go.
If you live in LA you will know what a rarity it is to have rain. That's exactly what I woke up to this morning and It couldn't be a more welcome sight. For a city that sees rain fall maybe 3 or 4 times a year on average, this was a treat. It reminded me of the tropics where I grew up.

So as you can imagine, that was my inspiration for the day. Rainfall symbolizes renewal, the washing away of the old. So I guess I can finally say 2009 has been officially washed away both figuratively and metaphorically. Let's go 2010.

To paint the raindrops, I borrowed the color scheme from my stream from Day 6 to represent water. If water equals life then raindrops are God's gift of life drops from heaven. Think about that the nest time you see it rain.

Also my 'celestial cluster' seems to be getting all the action over the last few days I'm wondering if this is a sign form mother nature herself saying she approves of me Mosaic 360 - Life In Color. After all if you really think about it, this masterpiece is a tribute, an homage to life and nature is life. First the sun then the stars then the moon then the triangle of nature and now raindrops. What will tomorrow bring???

Here is a closer view.
